我多记录一件事
我的村子便在一首诗中
比昨天更生动一些
把所有她可能患有的内疾
一一列举，对症下药
我的苍山村便能在日衰中
呼吸平顺，耗尽所有的形容词
——我不断地写
不断地写
一个在地图上找不到的村子
我的祖辈曾定下祖制：
女性不能载入族谱
我害怕多年后
人们想起吴素贞
他们抱出厚厚的族谱
像在地图上寻找苍山村一样
最后：查无此人

Testimonies
by Wu SuzhenIf I write about one more person, my village
will be a bit bigger on paper than yesterday.
If I record one more thing,
my village will be a little more poetic
and more vivid than yesterday.
I list all the internal diseases she may contract,
and offer each the right medicine.
No adjectives are spared on my Green Mountain Village
to help her breathe easier as she goes into decline.
I keep on writing,
keep on describing
a village not on the map.
My ancestors set the ancestral rules that
women can’t be included in the family tree.
I fear that many years from now
when someone think of Wu Suzhen
and roll out a thick genealogy book,
just like looking for Green Mountain Village on the map,
the result will be: no such person.
